Hall of Famer and former Red Sox catcher, Carlton Fisk has voiced his opinion on the latest Mark McGwire confession of using steroids. In an interview yesterday with the Chicago Tribune,  Fisk voiced his opinion and view of McGwire coming clean last week.

McGwire finally admitted to using steroids to set the record straight before he started taking the field on a daily basis as th hitting coach for the St.Louis Cardinals.

In the article McGwire is quoted saying the Performance Enhancing Drugs had nothing to do with him hitting 70 home runs in1998. Here is a bit of what Fisk had to say in response….

That’s a crock,” Fisk said. “There’s a reason they call it performance-enhancing drugs. That’s what it does — performance enhancement. You can be good, but it’s going to make you better. You can be average, but it is going to make you good. If you are below average, it is going to make you average. Some guys who went that route got their five-year, $35 million contracts and now are off into the sunset somewhere. Because once they can’t use (steroids) anymore, they can’t play anymore.

At the end of the article  Fisk voiced his opinion on Roger Clemens. He basically said Roger left the Sox because he was just putting up average numbers and was breaking down and when he signed with the Blue Jays he changed completely performance wise and had something to prove, winning the Cy young award for the American league 2 years in a row in 1997 and 1998.
