Tomorrow at the Baseball Assistance Team’s 21st Annual ” Going to Bat for B.A.T. Dinner being held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York, knuckle baller, Tim Wakefield will be presented with the 2009 Bart Giamatti Award for service to the community. Wakefield has been making contributions to the Boston community and his hometown Melbourne, Florida through a program he created in 1998 called “Wakefield Warriors”. This program that allows patients from the Jimmy Fund and the Children’s Hospital of Boston to make visits to the ball park posibble. For the past 17 years Wake has hosted the Annual Tim Wakefield Celebrity Golf Classic in Melbourne, FL which benefits the the Space Coast Early Intervention Center. The Red Sox veteran is the 3rd Sox player to receive the award, joining Curt Schilling(2005) and former Red Sox 1st baseman, Mo Vaughn(1996)
