The much anticapated press conference by Mike Lowell has come and gone. Mike spoke to the press according to many news sources for about 20 minutes today. Mike Lowell says his hip feels alot better than it did last year. He also went on to say that the only time it bothers him is when he runs, he said his first step out of the box feels good. He said he has been hitting of a tee and his surgically repaired thumb is healing rapidly. Mike feels like he will be taking some batting practice sometime next week.
The biggest part of the press conference for me was hearing Lowell say that while he appreciates the support of the fans, “Nobody should feel sorry for me.” He said he is able to separate baseball from his life and that his life is fine. “I’m pretty sure I’m going to be in the big leagues this season,” he said.
Lowell went on to say that he was on the trading block before and he is sure that he still is depending on his recovery. Lowell said that he is preparing this spring as he did any other year prior to get ready for the season.
Lowell met with Terry Francona and Theo Epstein earlier today, which is something every position player did. Lowell said there were no surprises or talk about him playing off the bench. It’s fairly evident they plan to trade him. Lowell went on to say.
So time will tell, How much longer will Mike Lowell being wearing a Red Sox uniform? Will he make it out of spring training as a Red Sox?
